Those that are blessed, must be bound…

Jaara lives in a time when those given certain powers by the gods are hunted down and enslaved for their gifts. Newly captured, she is forced aboard a slave ship and soon sold to the king.

Intrigued by her rare connection to a powerful goddess, the king gives Jaara a task that, if completed, will win her his favor for life, protecting her from the horrors of the slave trade that keeps the continent running.

With no hope of escaping, Jaara agrees to do his bidding in exchange for his favor, even if the task he gives her includes deceiving his rival and venturing with him into the Tongo Lands, a dark unmarked jungle, to fetch what rumors say only someone with her gift can retrieve.

But when the king sends one of his most trusted slaves to aid Jaara in this chore, the two grow reluctantly close, despite her wavering loyalty after the king's rival offers her something better than favor—freedom. As royals move against one another and she begins to unravel the past of her patron goddess, Jaara becomes caught between the many bargains she has struck and soon learns that there is more than favor or freedom at stake.
