Beta Readers Wanted
Interested in becoming a beta reader for Beneath The Night? Sweet! But wait, what’s a beta reader and why do authors need them?
Beta readers are essentially first readers, or test readers for authors. Betas provide feedback and advice before a book is passed along to an editor for further review. They can be professional editors or other writers, but more often than not, many are just regular readers who may or may not fit inside the author’s target audience.
Now that I’ve wrapped up the developmental edits of my novel (for the most part), it’s my time. And to dispel any doubts, yes, I’m scared.
The beta reading stage is a vulnerable time, especially for new authors like myself, who are letting others read their work for the first time. What if everyone hates it? What if I have to go back to the drawing board? Sometimes writers do after the beta stage, and that’s okay! It’s all a part of the process of becoming a better storyteller and making my book the best it can be before it hits those coveted bookshelves. So, while I’m sure I’ll regret the words later, I say: Be honest, even if it means being brutal. I’d rather fix my book now and fix my feelings later.
